Wing Commander's Commendation

On October 30th 2003, the crew received a radio call involving a junior officer field exercise in the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range. Three soldiers were in distress in different states of hypothermia. After locating the area and landing on a bog, and despite the -20 air temperature and near zero water temperature, Cpl Cormier travelled four times through the freezing waist high water to extract the injured soldiers. Once everyone was on board, Cpl Cormier continued to care for the injured soldiers until their transfer to an ambulance. Medical personnel assessed one soldier with severe, one with moderate and one with mild hypothermia. Because of Cpl Cormier's exemplary efforts and care, the soldiers were able to receive timely attention, preventing a medical emergency.
